How to add and edit audio ranges in the Pimloc Redact video editor
An audio range is a stretch of the video's sound that's muted or bleeped when you export.
There are three ways to add an audio range:
Type the times in the Audio ranges tool. This page covers that.
Draw it on the waveform in the Audio tab under the video. See How to redact audio on the audio timeline.
Redact words in the transcript. See How to redact speech using the transcript.
Whichever way you add it, every range appears in the Audio ranges list, on the waveform, and as crossed-out words in the transcript.
1) Open the Audio ranges tool
Click Audio ranges in the tools on the left. The list shows every range in the video, in time order. Each row shows its start and end time.
2) Add a range by typing the times
Typing the times is the most precise way to add a range, for example when you already know exactly when something is said.
Click Add. A new row appears with a start and end time.
Enter the start time as hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds. To use the current point in the video instead, click the clock button that appears next to the time.
Enter the end time the same way. It must be after the start time.
Click the green tick to add the range, or the red cross to cancel.
The new range appears in the list, on the waveform and in the transcript.
3) Change a range
Click a start or end time in the list and type a new value. The range updates when you move away from the field. To set it to the current point in the video, click the field and then the clock button next to it.
The end time must stay after the start time. If it doesn't, the change isn't saved.
You can also drag the ends of a range on the waveform. See Change a range.
4) Jump to or delete a range
Click the three dots at the end of a row:
Jump to start moves the video to the start of the range.
Jump to end moves the video to the end of the range.
Delete removes the range, so that part of the audio is no longer redacted. Any words in it are unredacted in the transcript too.
The range you've selected, here or on the waveform, has a bar next to it in the list.
5) Choose how ranges sound
Ranges are muted or bleeped when you export, depending on Redaction style under Audio settings in Redact settings. See Redact settings.
Keyboard shortcuts
There are no shortcuts in the Audio ranges list itself. In the Audio tab, you can jump between ranges and delete them with the keyboard. See Keyboard shortcuts.
