How to change redaction settings for a video or a single track in Pimloc Redact
Redact settings control how every redaction in the video looks and sounds when you export it. Track settings let you change one track without affecting the rest. This page explains both, and how they work together.
How the two work together
Redact settings apply to the whole video. Every track uses them unless you change that track.
Track settings apply to one track. A track set to Default uses the video's Redact settings. A track set to Custom uses its own settings instead.
So if you change the redaction style in Redact settings, every Default track changes with it, and every Custom track stays as it is.
Redact settings
Click Redact settings in the tools on the left of the video editor.
When you change a setting, Preview turns on, so you can see the result on the video straight away.
Video settings
Redaction style sets how boxes are hidden. See Redaction styles below.
Strength sets how heavy the blur or pixels are. Move it right for a stronger effect. It doesn't apply to Black Box.
Size makes every box bigger than the area it covers, so the edges of a face or number plate aren't left showing. Move it right to make the boxes bigger.
Redaction styles
Smooth = A soft blur. The shape is still visible, but no detail can be made out
Pixelated = Large blocks of a single colour, like a low-resolution image
Black Box = A solid black box. Nothing underneath can be seen
Audio settings
Export with audio. Turn it off to export the video with no sound at all.
Redact selected audio. Turn it on to mute or bleep the audio ranges you've added. If it's off, the sound is exported as it is, and your audio ranges are ignored.
Redaction style chooses what replaces each audio range: Mute for silence or Beep for a tone. You can only choose it when Redact selected audio is on.
Clip
Use Clip to export only parts of the video, rather than the whole thing.
Move the video to where you want a clip to start.
Click Add next to Clip. A new clip appears, starting and ending at the current point in the video.
Set its start and end times. Type them in, or click a time and then the clock button to use the current point in the video.
Add more clips the same way if you need them.
Once you've added a clip, only the clips are included when you export. To remove one, click the three dots next to it and choose Delete. With no clips, the whole video is exported.
Track settings
Select a box on the video, or a track on the video timeline, then click Track settings in the tools on the left. Track settings is greyed out until something is selected.
Label. Give the track a name, such as "Witness" or "Red car", so it's easy to find on the timeline and in search.
Redact. Use the eye next to the label to redact or unredact the track. A redacted track has an orange, crossed-out eye.
Inverse blur. Keep the track visible and hide everything around it. See How to spotlight a person with inverse blur.
Default or custom redaction style
Under Redaction style, choose:
Default to use the settings for the whole video, from Redact settings. If you change those, this track changes with them. The controls underneath show the video's settings, greyed out.
Custom to give this track its own redaction style, strength and size. These apply to the current track only. Custom starts with the video's current settings, so nothing changes until you move a control.
Switch back to Default to drop the track's own settings and use the video's again.
A track with its own style shows a small label on its bar on the timeline, so you can see which tracks are different.
