How to redact an audio file using its transcript in Pimloc Transcribe
When you open an audio file, its transcript fills the window, with the waveform underneath. This page explains how audio-only mode is laid out and what's different from the transcript in the video editor.
Most of the transcript works the same way as it does in the video editor: redacting words, speakers, timestamps, search, editing, downloading, PII and flagged speech. For each of those, see How to redact speech using the transcript. This page covers what's different.
Open an audio file
On the project page, click the card for an audio file. It opens in audio-only mode once its transcript is ready.
You can also switch a video to audio-only mode. In the video editor, open the Audio tab and click Audio only. See Open audio-only mode.
The parts of the window
The transcript fills the middle of the window, so you can read it like a document.
The tools on the left open the speakers, PII, flagged speech, audio ranges and redaction settings.
The playback controls and waveform are at the bottom.
The top bar shows the file's name, whether your changes are saved, and Export.
Redaction styles
In the video editor, the speakers, PII and flagged speech are tabs under the transcript. In audio-only mode they're tools on the left instead, each opening in its own panel. Click a tool to open it, and click it again to close it.
Speakers = Rename, redact and merge speakers. See Speakers
PII = Find and redact personal information. See Find personal information with the PII tab
Flagged speech = Check speech that may be wrong. See Check flagged speech
Audio ranges = List, add and edit audio redactions. See How to add and edit audio ranges
Redact settings = Choose whether to include the audio, mute or bleep it, and which clips to export. See Audio settings
Clicking a flag in the transcript opens the Flagged speech tool.
The transcript toolbar
The toolbar above the transcript has a few extra options in audio-only mode:
Font size makes the transcript text bigger or smaller: 16px, 20px or 24px.
Enable editing unlocks the transcript so you can correct the text. Click Disable editing when you've finished. In the video editor, this is the lock button. See Edit the transcript.
Download downloads the transcript. See Download the transcript.
Play the audio
The playback controls are under the transcript. They work like the video editor's, except the step buttons move a tenth of a second at a time instead of one frame
Click a word in the transcript to jump to the moment it's said.
Under the controls is the waveform. Draw on it to redact part of the audio, the same way as in the video editor. See How to redact audio on the audio timeline.
Saving and exporting
UYour changes save automatically. The top bar shows Saving while a change is being saved, then Saved.
When you've finished, click Export in the top right. The export works the same way as for a video. See Export the redacted video.
Keyboard Shortcuts
The transcript, waveform and playback shortcuts are the same as in the video editor. See Keyboard shortcuts for the transcript and Keyboard shortcuts for the waveform.
