How to track a new object through a video in Pimloc Redact
The tracker follows a person or object from frame to frame and draws a box around it for you. This page explains how to track something new, how to keep tracking from a box that's already there, what to do when the tracker loses its target, and how to accept the result.
How to use Tracker
Use this when there's no box yet on the person or object you want to redact.
Pause the video on a frame where the person or object is clearly visible.
Click Tracker in the Timeline Toolbar, or press T. A message at the top of the video says "Track an object. Draw a box to track."
Draw a box around the person or object.
The tracker starts straight away. To stop without drawing a box, press Esc or click the × on the message.
While the tracker runs, the new boxes are a suggestion. Nothing is saved until you accept them.
On the video, the toolbar next to the box says Tracking, then Tracking complete when it finishes.
On the timeline, the frames it has tracked show as a yellow band.
The tracker stops on its own when it can no longer find the person or object, for example when they leave the frame or something passes in front of them. The box and the yellow band end on the last frame it was sure about.
If the box slips off the person or object, you can correct it and carry on.
Pause the video on the first frame where the box is in the wrong place.
Drag the box back over the target. Resize it if you need to.
Let go. The tracker keeps every frame before this one, uses your box for this frame, and tracks on from there. Your corrected box is still part of the suggestion, so you can check the rest before you accept it.
To keep tracking after the tracker has stopped, select the last box and click Track from this frame again.
When you're happy with the result, use the buttons in the toolbar next to the box:
Accept to this frame = Keeps the tracked boxes up to the current frame and drops the rest
Accept all = Keeps every tracked box. You can use it once tracking has finished
Cancel/Remove = Stops the tracker and drops the suggestion.
The same actions are on the yellow band in the timeline, as Apply suggestion, Accept to this frame and Cancel suggestion.
Accepted boxes become a track like any other.
